Health Information & Advice

There is masses of information on the web. But where do you go for sensible, reliable, validated, non-commercial advice about your health?

NHS Direct is often the best first stop in seeking health advice, whether talking to a nurse adviser or looking up information on the web-site. There is a basic health encyclopaedia, a useful self-help guide to health and illness and many links as well as information about using the NHS and searches for local and national services.

Willow Tree's own Links Page is very useful (we would say that!) and is growing all the time. Only carefully selected, reliable sites are listed, saving you a lot of time and frustration and potential mis-information.

We also link to the Patient Information Leaflets and place other useful information on this page, below.

Another superb site for advising you on the best evidence-based treatment for your condition is Best Treatments, a site run jointly by the BMJ and NHS.

Patient Information Leaflets (PILS)

The following link will take you to the NHS Patient Information Leaflets (PILS).

Patient Information Leaflets

These are the same leaflets we print out for you in the surgery and are also used by NHS Direct, so represent the 'official' NHS position. They are all validated and represent the best current evidence-based information and advice on all manner of conditions and symptoms and are probably the best place to start. There are also lists of hundreds of self help-groups and web-sites. All this information and the PILs are updated regularly.
